Visual Routing Guide for Battery Cable and Fuel Lines for Certain 16M Motor Graders{1408, 4334}

Usage:

16M B9H
Motor Grader:
16M (S/N: B9H1-UP; R9H1-UP)

Introduction

This Special Instruction contains procedure and illustrations to route the battery cable and fuel lines for the machines listed above.

Important Safety Information

------ WARNING! ------

Before service work is begun, park the machine on a hard level surface. Block the wheels of the machine so unexpected movement will not occur. Unexpected movement of the machine can cause personal injury or death.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

To prevent injury or death, never work under a machine while a test is being performed.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Prevent sparks near the batteries. Sparks could cause vapors to explode. Do not allow jumper cable ends to contact each other or the engine.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

To avoid personal injury from electrical shock, ensure that the negative battery cable is disconnected first.

----------------------

NOTICE

Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over disconnected fuel system component.

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate or work on this engine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manual. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact any Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

----------------------

Rework Procedure

  1. Routing procedure and illustrations given in the below procedures represent a typical machine, changes in production may result in differences between units.

  1. This Special Instruction should be used as a reference for good routing practices (to help prevent rubs, heat sources, exposure to machine fluids, and so on).

  1. Post factory changes are not accounted for in this Special Instruction.

  1. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS5171, "Guidelines for routing and Installing Wiring Harness Assembles" for additional cable routing information.

  1. Refer to General Service Information, KELR2333, "Hydraulic Systems Checks & Maintenance" for additional hose routing information.
