System Operation
The coolant temperature sensor measures the temperature of the engine coolant. The ECM uses this information to notify the operator of a high engine coolant temperature condition.
When the coolant temperature is below 60°C (140°F) the cold start strategy is activated using the following parameters:
1. Start rack is limited to 5.0 mm (0.20 in) during engine start-up (0 to 500 rpm).
2. When engine speed increases above 1200 rpm the cold mode deactivates.
3. If engine has been running for 5 minutes then the cold mode deactivates.
The sensor operates on 8 volts DC, supplied through pin 10 of the ECM connector J14/P14. Note that the 8 volt supply and sensor common is the same as the other sensors.
