Usage:
System Operation
Synchronization System
The 3408/3412 Marine Engine arrangement allows the operator to synchronize both engines on either one of the two throttle signals. To accomplish this, two switch inputs on the ECM are used. The following code determines the throttle usage:
For each individual engine, a - Battery - Battery, - Battery + Battery and + Battery + Battery code means the throttle signal in use is the Primary Throttle Signal. A + Battery - Battery code means the throttle signal in use is the Secondary Throttle Signal.
NOTE: This switch is OEM supplied. If Caterpillar synchronization system is not used, then no wires should be connected to pins 1, 2 and 3 of the P2 connector.
NOTE: If the optional CMS display is being used, then engine location (PORT or STBD) must be programmed into the ECM using a service tool (ECAP).
NOTE: The status of the % Throttle and Desired Engine Speed should change when the synchronization switch is changed from independent to PORT or STBD.
For example: If the PORT desired speed is set to 1500 rpm and the STBD desired speed is set to 2000 rpm and the synchronization switch is moved from independent to PORT, the Desired Engine Speed for both engines will be 1500 rpm. If the PORT throttle lever is moved the Desired Engine Speed for both engines will change.
