P-501 Electrical Power Supply To ECM
Usage:
System Operation
The ECM receives electrical power (battery voltage) through wiring supplied by the OEM manufacturer. In typical applications, the ECM receives power whenever the ignition key is turned on.
This procedure tests whether proper voltage is being supplied by OEM wiring.
For intermittent problems that could be caused by OEM wiring (such as intermittent shutdowns) temporarily bypassing the OEM wiring may be an effective means of determining the root cause. If symptoms vanish with the wiring bypassed, OEM wiring was the cause. A means of bypassing OEM wiring is explained in step 4 of the functional test.
NOTE: A back-up battery supply is recommended.
