AP655D and BG655D Asphalt Pavers Propel System Caterpillar

Piston Pump Flow - Test - Steel Track

Usage:

BG655D BPA
Note: An operator and an assistant are required in order to perform this test.

Note: This procedure tests the pump flow rate by measuring the speed of the tracks. This machine is equipped with two identical propulsion pumps. One pump provides the flow in order to drive the right track. The second pump provides the flow in order to drive the left track. This test should be performed on both sides of the machine. If this test reveals a difference in performance between the right side and left side of the machine, a pump synchronization procedure may need to be performed. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pump Synchrozination - Test and Adjust" in order to synchronize the propulsion pumps.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

------ WARNING! ------

Injury to personnel can result if they are not in the operator's view. Allow only essential personnel near the machine, and make sure the personnel are in the operator's view when testing, to prevent injury. Make sure checks are done in an open area.

------ WARNING! ------

To prevent injury or death, never work under a machine while a test is being performed.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from lifting a heavy component.

The heavy component can fall if using an incorrect hoist and/or sling or fastener to lift the load.

Be sure the hoist and other devices have the correct lifting capacity to lift a heavy component. The approximate weight of the heavy component is given below.

  7. Engage screed lock mechanism (6) on both sides of the machine.

  8. Move screed lift switch (5) to the FLOAT position. Allow the tow arms to rest on screed locks (6a).

Note: The screed lift switch on the inactive operator station must also be in the FLOAT position in order to lower the screed.

  9. Move throttle control switch (7) to the LOW IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second.

  10. After the engine reaches low idle, move engine start switch (8) to the OFF position.

  11. Use a suitable lifting device in order to raise the machine. For this test, the machine must be adequately supported and both tracks must be off the ground.

  12. Place a small strip of reflective tape from Tool On final drive housing (9). Place the tape in a perpendicular position to the machine. Repeat this process for the other side of the machine.

  13. Clear all personnel away from the machine except the operator and an assistant. The assistant must remain 1.25 m (4 ft) away from the machine. The assistant must also be in full view of the operator.

Note: The switch for the screed lift must be reset to the HOLD position before the machine will start.

  14. Move engine start switch (8) to the START position. Release the engine start switch when the engine starts.

  15. Operate the engine at low idle for a few minutes.

  16. Move throttle control switch (7) to the HIGH IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second. The engine speed should increase to 2200 rpm.

  17. Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature on the operator display. Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43 ± 5.6 °C (110 ± 10 °F).

  18. Rotate speed dial (2) to the MAXIMUM position.

  19. Move parking brake switch (1) to the OFF position.

Note: The parking brake switch on the inactive operator station must also be in the OFF position.

  20. Move propulsion lever (2) to the FULL FORWARD position.

  21. Use Tool (A) to measure the rotational speed of final drive housing (9). The speed should be 39.6 to 45.0 rpm. Perform this step for both sides of the machine.

  22. Move propulsion lever (4) to the FULL REVERSE position.

  23. Use Tool (A) in order to measure the rotational speed of final drive housing (9). The speed should be 39.6 to 45.0 rpm. Perform this step for both sides of the machine.

  24. Move propulsion lever (4) to the NEUTRAL position.

  25. Rotate speed dial (2) to the MINIMUM position.

  26. Move parking brake switch (1) to the ON position.

  27. Move throttle control switch (7) to the LOW IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second.

  28. After the engine reaches low idle, move engine start switch (8) to the OFF position. Stop the engine.

  29. Use a suitable lifting device to lower the machine to the ground.
