The low pressure fuel line needs to be replaced on certain C6.6 Industrial Engines. The existing low pressure fuel line has a defective internal bore surface. Debris from this surface can damage the injector valve seats, causing high injector leak off and in some instances failure to start.

PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REWORKING THE LOW PRESSURE FUEL LINE

MODELS INVOLVED - C6.6 INDUSTRIAL ENGINES


Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:

The low pressure fuel line needs to be replaced on the products listed. The existing low pressure fuel line can shed debris, causing high injector leak off and in some instances failure to start. You will not be charged for the service performed.

Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.

Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 25Apr2011 when scheduling this service.

We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure


 
Refer to KENR6081, Disassembly and Assembly manual, as necessary.

Replacement of the low-pressure tube.

1. Replace the existing tube with the new tube (1). Install tube (1) between the final filter and the fuel injection pump.

2. Check to ensure that the connections are leak free.

3. Perform an injector leak off test, in order to verify injector performance.

Refer to KENR6938, Special Instruction, "High Leakoff of the Electronic Unit Injector".

Record leak off rate within the claim story.

- If the amount collected is less than the limit, end the test. No further action is required.

- If amount collected is greater than the limit, install a new set of injectors, high-pressure fuel tubes, fuel pressure sensor and fuel rail.
 
Replacement of high-pressure tubes, injectors, fuel pressure sensor and fuel rail.

1. Refer to KENR6081, Disassembly and Assembly manual for the for procedures, as necessary.

2. Replace the existing high-pressure tubes, injectors, fuel pressure sensor and fuel rail.

3. On completion of the rework, check to ensure that all of the connections are leak free.
