WOODWARD GOVERNOR SERVICE MANUAL FOR CATERPILLAR G330 Caterpillar

PC Service Tools

Usage:

Additional PC Service Tools

Woodward Governor Company provides several other PC service tools that allow the user to do various operations. All of these tools use the SAE network and require a PC and serial link converter like the PC Service Tool. The PC service tools all use serial port COM1 as the default. Serial port COM2 can be used by adding the /P=2 command after the PC service tool call (DMMID /P=2). A help list is also available by adding the /? command after the PC service tool call (DMMID /?).

All error messages displayed by the PC service tools are followed by the corrective actions that should be followed.

Control Download (DMMLOAD)

The Control Download executable file (9924-142) allows the factory to download a new application program into the DMMP control over the SAE network. This makes it easy to keep a DMMP control updated to the latest application version without sending the unit in for service and disabling the vehicle for extended periods.

Before downloading a new application, make sure the engine is off (otherwise, the DMMP control will force the actuator to minimum position). To download, type DMMLOAD APP.DWN at the A: prompt. This command will take the new application, APP.DWN, and start programming the DMMP control.

The download will go faster if all other networked controls are removed from the network. If the download was successful, the control is ready to run. The start-up procedure in Chapter 6 should be repeated.

If an error was returned by the DMMP control during the download, write down the error. This information will be useful to help determine what went wrong with the download. Often all that needs to be done is to retry the download. Otherwise follow the corrective action displayed.

NOTE: DMMLOAD is available for factory use only.

The monitor will display in the following format:

Control Read (DMMREAD)

The Control Read executable file allows the user to read all of the tunable setpoints in the application from the DMMP memory via the SAE network. The setpoints are written to a file on the disk. The file created can be used by the DMMP control write to write the setpoints to a different unit that requires the same setpoints. This makes it very easy to calibrate a single vehicle and simply copy the new setpoints to several identical units. The application version must match between the read unit and the write unit.

Type DMMREAD <file name> at the A: prompt, and a file will be created on the disk that contains all of the setpoints. A help list is available by adding /? after DMMREAD.

The DMMREAD also allows an ENGINE CONFIGURATION parameter to be added to the internal data plate. Add /C="xxxxxx" to the command line following DMMREAD and before <file name>. The engine configuration must be in quotes and may have a maximum of 64 characters. Type DMMREAD /? for help. The information on the data plate is accessible through the use of DMMID as shown below.

NOTE: DMMREAD and DMMWRITE must be used in DOS version 3.3 or later. The engine must be shut down for this operation.

The monitor will display in the following format:

Control Write (DMMWRITE)

The Control Write executable file allows the user to write new setpoints to all of the locations in an application already loaded into a DMMP control via the SAE network. The setpoints must be stored in a file on the disk that was created using DMMREAD. This allows the user to read the calibrated setpoints off a working DMMP control and then copy those setpoints into several new uncalibrated units. The DMMP control to be written to must have the same application version as the DMMP control that was read from.

Type DMMWRITE <filename> at the A: prompt, and the setpoint file on the disk will be loaded into the DMMP control. A help list is available by adding /? after the DMMWRITE.

NOTE: DMMREAD and DMMWRITE must be used in DOS version 3.3 or later. The engine must be shut down for this operation.

The monitor will display in the following format:

Control ID (DMMID)

The DMMP Control ID (9924-145) allows the user to access the internal data plate located in program memory. The monitor will display in the following format:

Only the ECM Part Number, Application Title, and Software Calibration are customer-supplied fields.

Type DMMID at the A: prompt to display the information listed.

No fields may by changed with the exception of Software Calibration. This field may be modified with the use of the DMMREAD software tool. See DMMREAD above for more information.
