Generator Bearing

Usage:

Remove Generator Bearing

1. Disconnect wire (1) from water temperature sending unit.

2. Remove cover (2) from water temperature contactor.

3. Disconnect wires (3) from terminals in water temperature contactor.

4. Identify and disconnect wires (4) from the oil pressure switch.

5. Disconnect wire (5) from the oil pressure sending unit.

6. Identify and disconnect wire (6) from the alternator.

7. Identify and disconnect ground wire (7).

8. Identify and disconnect wires (8) from solenoid.

9. Identify and disconnect wire (9) from large terminal on solenoid.

10. Disconnect and remove governor control (10).

11. Remove 1/2"-13 NC forged eye bolt (11) and positioning bolt (12) from generator frame.

12. Pull wiring harness (13) away from engine for generator cover removal.

13. Remove three bolts and nuts (14) and generator cover (15).

14. Remove regulator cover (16).

15. Remove two rear mounting bolts (17) and raise rear of generator approximately 1/4" and support rear of generator with wood blocks.

16. Remove two mounting bolts (18) from regulator.

17. Remove nuts and washers (19) mounting preamplifier printed circuit board to the regulator housing.

18. Remove mounting bolt (20) from regulator housing located behind the preamplifier printed circuit board.

19. Identify and disconnect all wires from the generator and engine leading to the regulator housing.

20. Remove regulator panel (21).


NOTICE

Carefully guide wires through hole in rear of regulator panel housing.


21. Install heavy gasket material (22), approximately .070 in. (1,78 mm) thick between rotor assembly and stator assembly to support rotor assembly after generator end bell has been removed.

22. Install a 3/8"-16NC forged eyebolt (23) in the top of generator end bell.

23. Attach a suitable hoist and remove end bell and exciter field (24) as a unit. Weight 92 lbs. (41,73 kg).

24. Remove generator bearing using tool setup (A).

Install Generator Bearing

1. Heat generator bearing to 250°F (121°C).

2. Start the heated bearing onto the shaft and using tool (A) drive the bearing on the shaft until the bearing inner race seats against the shoulder on the shaft.


NOTICE

Allow bearing to cool before beginning assembly of generator.


3. Install a 3/8"-16NC forged eyebolt (1) in top of end bell and attach a suitable hoist.

4. Install end bell and exciter field (2) as a unit being careful to guide wires through end bell.

5. Remove gasket material (3) between rotor assembly and stator assembly.

6. Remove wood blocks (4) supporting generator frame.

7. Install regulator panel (5).


NOTICE

Carefully guide wires through hole in rear of regulator panel housing.


8. Connect all wires from the generator and engine leading to the regulator housing. If additional information is needed refer to the wiring diagrams on Page 19.

9. Install regulator housing mounting bolt (6).

10. Install preamplifier printed circuit board (7) on studs in regulator housing.

11. Install two mounting bolts (8) in regulator housing.

12. Install two generator rear mounting bolts (9).

13. Install regulator cover (10).

14. Install generator cover (11) guiding wiring harness (12) through the hole in cover.

15. Install 1/2"-13NC forged eyebolt (13) and positioning bolt (14).

16. Install governor control (15).

17. Connect wire (16) to large terminal on solenoid.

18. Connect wires (17) to solenoid.

19. Connect ground wire (18).

20. Connect wire (19) to the alternator.

21. Connect wire (20) to the oil pressure sending unit.

22. Connect wires (21) to the oil pressure switch.

23. Connect wires (22) at terminals in temperature contactor.

24. Install cover (23) on water temperature contactor.

25. Connect wire (24) to water temperature sending unit.
