Crankshaft

Usage:

(1) Width of groove for ring in thrower ... .2515 ± .0005 in.(6.388 ± 0.013 mm)

Maximum permissible runout (axial eccentricity) of face of ring groove ... .002 in.(0.05 mm)

Clearance between ring and side of groove ... .0025 to .0045 in.(0.064 to 0.114 mm)

Put engine oil on ring and install ring with word "OUT" away from crankshaft.

(2) Before installation do not heat thrower higher than maximum temperature of ... 300°F(149°C)

(3) Before installation do not heat gear higher than maximum temperature of ... 300°F(149°C)

(4) Wear sleeves and seals:

Remove wear sleeves with 5P7318 Distorter Group.

Install front and rear wear sleeves and seals as follows:

a. Clean the inner surface of the sleeve and the outer surface of the crankshaft with 8M8060 Quick Cure Primer.

b. Put 9S3265 Retaining Compound on the cleaned surfaces.

c. Install the sleeve and seal at the same time on the crankshaft as shown.

NOTE: See Special Instruction Form SMHS7100 for the necessary tools and complete procedure for installation of wear sleeves and seals.

(5) Plug and retainer. (Earlier)

Minimum torque for six plugs (later) ... 17 lb.ft.(23 N·m)

"Stake" (make a mark with a punch) the crankshaft to hold the plug tight.

(6) Maximum length of pin out of crankshaft face ... 3.44 in.(87.4 mm)

(7) Make reference to MAIN BEARINGS.

(8) Make reference to CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS.

(9) End play for crankshaft ... .010 to .025 in.(0.25 to 0.64 mm)
