Usage:
Challenger 35 (8DN),
Challenger 45 (1DR),
Challenger 55 (7DM) Agricultural Tractors
Description of Change: An improved coolant level sensor that includes a ground wire is now available. Formerly, the sensor relied on the ground through the radiator interface. The new design should eliminate coolant level sensor ground faults (F415).
Adaptable To: The 142-2807 Harness Assembly and the 147-0716 Coolant Level Sensor are effective with Challenger 35 (8DN906), Challenger 45 (1DR1834), and Challenger 55 (7DM1025) Agricultural Tractors. The new components are adaptable to Challenger 35 (8DN1-905), Challenger 45 (1DR1-1833), and Challenger 55 (7DM1-1024) Agricultural Tractors.
Harness Rework Procedure (If Harness Assembly Is Not Replaced)
If desired, the connector may be modified on the existing harness assembly using the components listed in the following chart.
1. The new connector is a "pull to seat" design. As a result, the wire must be fed through the connector before the terminal is installed.
2. Once the terminal is installed, pull the terminal back into the connector.
122-4388 Plug Connector
3. Install the existing wire into socket (A). Insert the new ground wire into socket (B). Splice the opposite end of the ground wire into the black wire at the engine coolant temperature sensor in order to complete the ground circuit.
NOTE: Make sure to protect the wire and tie wrap it accordingly along the existing harness assembly.
