Description of Change: A thicker head gasket is available for all machines powered by 3126 Engines. The thicker head gasket is used after salvage milling procedures to the cylinder block.
Adaptable To: The 119-2948 Head Gasket is adaptable to first production for the machine engines.
3126 Engine blocks with heights less than 321.75 mm (12.667 in) require the use of the 119-2948 Head Gasket. The gasket is .25 mm (.010 in) thicker than the standard head gasket. The thicker head gasket allows the block deck to be resurfaced below what would be possible with the standard head gasket. The increased material removed from the block deck causes the pistons to project higher above the block surface at Top Center (TC). The thicker head gasket keeps the pistons from hitting the cylinder head and valves.
NOTE: The 119-2948 Head Gasket should not be used unless the block has been resurfaced below the minimum specified measurement. Using the 119-2948 Head Gasket when it is not needed will result in a lower compression ratio and may cause hard starting and excessive white smoke.
