Automatic Timing Advance (Earlier)

Usage:

Remove Automatic Timing Advance (Earlier)

1. Set the fuel injection pump timing. See REMOVE FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNOR for timing procedure. Tools (A) and (B) will be needed to set the timing.


INDUSTRIAL ENGINE

2. Remove nuts (1). Remove cover (2) from the timing gear cover.


MARINE ENGINE

3. Loosen bolt (3). Hit the bolt with a soft hammer until the automatic timing advance is loose.

4. Remove bolt (3) and washer (4). Remove automatic timing advance (5).

Install Automatic Timing Advance (Earlier)


MARINE ENGINE

1. Put automatic timing advance (1) in position on the drive shaft for the fuel injection pump.


INDUSTRIAL ENGINE

2. Install washer (2) and bolt (3). Tighten bolt (3) to a torque of 15 lb.ft. (20 N·m). Remove tool (A) from the fuel injection pump housing. Tighten bolt (3) to a torque of 110 ± 10 lb.ft. (149 ± 14 N·m).


NOTICE

Do not tighten the bolt to final torque unless tool (A) is removed.


3. Put the cover in position on the timing gear cover. Install the nuts that hold it.

4. Remove tool (A) from the fuel injection pump housing. Install the plug in the fuel injection pump housing. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel.
