PROBLEM
The engine water pumps need to be inspected on certain D11R Tractors; 776D Tractors; 777D and 793C Trucks; 992G Wheel Loaders; and 3508, 3508B, G3508, 3512, 3512B, G3512, 3516, 3516B, G3516, G3524, and G3532 Engines. Water pumps that do not have a "W" stamped on the pump to indicate that they have been reworked previously need to be disassembled to clean the taper where the impeller mounts. If the taper is not properly cleaned before tightening the nut the impeller can turn on the shaft and result in overheating.

ACTION REQUIRED
***** Parts Stock *****
Note: Check the curved outlet portion of the pump for a 'W' stamp in the casting. This would indicate that the rework has already been performed.
Remove all 166-4377, 166-4378, 166-4379, 166-4380, 166-4381, and 1664382 Water Pumps from dealer parts stock and inspect them for a "W" stamped in the casting. If there is no "W" stamped in the casting at the curved outlet portion of the pump refer to the procedure for reworking the Affected Product and Spare Engine water pumps to remove the impeller and clean the tapers.

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The engine water pumps need to be inspected on the products listed below. Water pumps that do not have a "W" stamped on the pump to indicate that they have been reworked previously need to be disassembled to clean the taper where the impeller mounts. If the taper is not properly cleaned before tightening the nut the impeller can turn on the shaft and result in overheating.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
