Usage:
NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
NOTE: This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS0595" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use " Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
NOTE: If either the auto-vibe switch or the vibratory lockout switch fail, complete both portions of this Service Letter at the same time.
NOTE: Although this Program is to be administered as described above, it can also be administered before failure with Product Support Representative Authorization. For audit purposes, a copy of the authorization should be retained at the dealership.
NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the July 26, 1992 Service Letter. Changes have been made to make repair before failure claimable with Product Support Representative Authorization.
Termination Date
July 31, 1993Problem
The detent may stick on the 5E9512 Handle Assembly of certain CB434 and CB534 Vibratory Compactors. The vibratory lockout switch on these same compactors may rotate in the console and change selections in certain applications.

Service Claim Allowances
NOTE: This is a 2.5-hour job.
NOTE: If this Program was administered before failure, a copy of the Product Support Representative Authorization must be retained at the dealership for audit purposes.

Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.
Attach. (1-Rework Procedure)
Rework Procedure
1. Park the compactor as described in the Operation Manual. Be sure that the master disconnect or battery is disconnected. (CB434 does not have a master disconnect.)
2. Remove the three bolts which connect the two handle halves to the lever arm.
3. Cut the three wires which connect the current auto-vibe switch to the wiring harness.
4. Remove the two handle halves, detent assembly, rocker assembly, cover boot, locking spring, and micro switch. These parts will not be reused.
5. Strip .25 in. of insulation off of the three wires which were cut from the existing auto-vibe switch and connect the 5P2766 Terminals.
6. Bend the 5P2766 Terminals into a 90 degree angle and install on to the 779578 Switch as shown in View A-A of the Illustration.
7. Place the 1G9058 Collar over the 779578 Switch and tighten the 3H1394 Set Screw. Tighten the set screw to a torque of 4.5 lb in.
8. Install the switch in the two new 1G8959 Handle halves with the handle halves around the control shaft. See the Illustration.
9. Tighten the two 2F7306 Bolts, which connect the 1G8959 Handle halves to the 1G9058 Collar to a torque of 4.5 lb in.
10. Tighten the two bolts which connect the handle halves to a torque of 15.5 lb in. (Reuse the existing hardware for connecting the two clamp halves. Items Numbered 1 & 9)
11. Install the 1G9059 Boot over the switch arm.
