Aftercooler Coolant Pressure Is Low

Usage:

C175-16 3B9
Use this procedure to troubleshoot low aftercooler coolant pressure or use this procedure if the following event code is active. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Event Codes" for information about event codes.

Table 1
J1939 Code and Description  CDL Code and Description  Comments
1203–17
Engine Auxiliary Coolant Pressure : Low - least severe (1)
E2113(3)
Low Aftercooler Coolant Pressure
The code is logged.

Probable Causes

  • Pump components

  • Coolant lines

Recommended Actions

Note: The procedures have been listed in order of probability. Complete the procedures in the order of the listed test steps.

Table 2
Troubleshooting Test Steps  Values  Results

1. Check for Codes

A. Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tools", if necessary.

B. Determine if the diagnostic trouble code that directed to this procedure is present.

C. Look for active diagnostic codes that are associated with the system for the event code that directed to this procedure.

1203-17

Result: An associated code is present.

Repair: Troubleshoot any associated codes before continuing with this test.

Result: A 1203-17 code is present.

Proceed to the next step.

Result: No active codes

STOP

2. Inspect the Pump Components

A. Check for a damaged aftercooler water pump.

B. Inspect the impeller of the water pump for damage and wear.

Pump

Results: The aftercooler water pump is OK

Proceed to the next step.

Results: The water pump is NOT OK

Repair: Repair or replace the water pump.

If the problem is not resolved, proceed to the next step.

3. Check the Coolant Lines

A. Inspect cooling system components for leaks.

B. Ensure that the level of the coolant for the separate circuit aftercooler system is adequate.

Coolant leak

Results: The coolant lines and the coolant level are OK

Results: The coolant lines and the coolant are NOT OK

Repair: Clear restrictions and replace any damage lines.
