Engine News SEBD9782, 16 May 2012, "A New Spark Plug Is Used in G3600 Engines". The article has been revised to recommend referring tp the engine Specifications manual for the spark plug gap and for tightening the spark plug.

Description of Change: The new spark plug provides improved reliability and service life.

The new spark plug has an iridium alloy on the tip of the center electrode. The tip of the ground electrode has a platinum alloy.

Adaptable To: The new 301-6663 Spark Plug replaces the 194-8518 Spark Plug in the above engines. The new 301-6663 Spark Plug is adaptable to the above engines back to first production.

The 194-8518 Spark Plug is canceled.

Maintenance Recommendations

Perform the following maintenance for the 301-6663 Spark Plug at each 1000 hour interval. If deposits build-up in engines that use bio-gas, reduce the maintenance interval.

  • Inspect

  • Clean

  • Check the electrode gap. Adjust the gap, if necessary.

Never use a wire brush to clean the spark plug because the metallic bristles can leave deposits. Clean the spark plug with glass beads.

Check the electrode gap with the 9U-7516 Spark Plug Gauge .

Before you install a spark plug, make sure that the spark plug is clean. Make sure that the gap is correct. Clean the seat for the spark plug with the 9U-7511 Spark Plug Seat Cleaner. When you install a spark plug, always install a new 9Y-6792 Spark Plug Gasket. Do not overtighten the spark plug.

Set the electrode gap and tighten the spark plug according to the engine Specifications manual,
