(1) Line from torque converter to oil cooler
(2) Cooler return oil line (3) Transmission oil cooler |
Coolant from the engine comes in at one end of the cooler. The coolant goes through long tubes that are inside the cooler. The coolant exits the other end of the cooler to the coolant system.
Hot hydraulic oil comes from the torque converter through line (1) to transmission oil cooler (3). The oil flows around the coolant tubes. The baffles inside the cooler route the oil through the cooler. The baffles support the coolant tubes. Heat is removed from the oil. This heat is absorbed by the coolant. The coolant is cooled by the engine cooling system.

The cooled oil leaves the cooler through the cooler outlet. The cooled oil goes through cooler return oil line (2) to the transmission. Some of the cooled oil goes to the flywheel in order to lubricate the flywheel.
