Location of the SKI Board

The board for the SKiiP Interface (SKI) is a signal conditioning board that provides an interface between the board for the APC controller and the three-phase Flywheel Inverter modules. The SKI uses an optical link that couples the IGBT gate signals to the Flywheel Inverter. The SKI converts 5 V signals to a 15 V signal. The SKI also converts the 0 to 10 V current feedback signals to 4 to 20 mA signals.

Six SKI boards are located in each Flywheel Cabinet. One SKI board is connected to the front of each Flywheel Inverter.

Removal Procedure

Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7654, "Internal Component Preremoval Steps (Flywheel Cabinet)" in order to shut down the system and gain access to internal components.

NOTICE

Electrostatic discharge can damage integrated circuits or semiconductors if you touch bus connector pins. When not in use, keep the module in the static-shield bag. Follow these guidelines when you handle any module:

Touch a grounded object to discharge static potential.

Wear an approved wrist-strap grounding device.

Do not touch the bus connector or connector pins.

Do not touch circuit components inside the module.

If available, use a static-safe work station.

  1. Disconnect all connectors from the board. Verify the labeling on each connector with the location of the connector.

  1. Disconnect the four white plastic standoffs that connect the board to the left panel.

Note: The board must be removed from the standoffs without bending the board .

  1. Compress the head of each standoff so that the board is not locked, but the board is still attached to the standoff.

  1. Remove the board from all standoffs at the same time.

  1. Position the board in the cabinet over the four white standoffs that are connected to the Flywheel Inverter module.

  1. Install the board onto all the standoffs simultaneously. Verify that all standoffs are locked in place.

  1. Connect the wire connectors into the correct connectors on the board. Verify the labeling of each connector with the location of the connector. Refer to Illustration 2.

Note: Verify that all toroids that are connected to a SKI are tie-wrapped away from the bus bars.
