According to field reports, some customers have had problems with leakage of engine oil between the cylinder block and oil pan at the location of the center gasket between the oil pan sections. This gasket normally extends above the top surface of the oil pan sections so it can be cut even with the surface during assembly. If this is not done, the extra gasket material will prevent a good seal between the oil pan and cylinder block at this location.
For this reason, be sure to check the gasket during installation. After the two sections of the oil pan are fastened together, cut the gasket even with the top surface of the oil pan sections. Then install the oil pan on the engine.
