Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Note: Disconnect all electrical connections to the coolant temperature sensor before proceeding. Mark all connections for later installation.
- Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
- Remove coolant temperature switch (1) from the cylinder head.

- Inspect coolant temperature switch (1) for damage. If the coolant temperature switch is damaged, use a new part for replacement. For information on testing the coolant temperature switch for correct operation, refer to the Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting Module, "Coolant Temperature Switch - Test" topic.
Installation Procedure

- Install coolant temperature switch (1) into the housing. Tighten coolant temperature switch (1) to a torque of 28 ± 2 N·m (21 ± 1 lb ft).

Note: Use 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant on the threads of the switch when you install coolant temperature switch (1) .
- Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" topic for additional information.
