SCSA SOLID STATE MAGNETO Caterpillar

Glossary

Usage:

Anode:
The positive end of a diode or a rectifier.
Bridge:
A circuit used to change AC to DC and to measure small quantities of current, voltage or resistance.
Bias:
A low voltage which keeps the Silicon Controlled Rectifiers turned off.
Cathode:
The negative end of a diode or a rectifier.
Discharge:
To remove a charge.
Flux-lock:
The position of the generator magnet assembly in relation to the magnetic bridge of the generator coil. A resistance will be felt when the rotor moves in either direction. This is due to the magnetic forces between the rotor and the metal pick-up on the generator coil bridge.
Gate:
An electronic part of a controlled rectifier (thyristor).
Generated:
To make electricity.
Induced:
Current generated in a coil.
Input:
Power or energy put into a system.
Magnetic:
Having the characteristics of a magnet.
Open Circuit:
A broken electrical circuit.
SCR:
Silicon Controlled Rectifier (semi-conductor).
Short Circuit:
A connection between two or more components that is not desired.
Turn-On:
To start, as current flow through the controlled rectifier; to activate.
Turn-Off:
To stop, as current flow through the controlled rectifier.
Windings:
Layers of wire on a core.
Wiring:
The wires of a circuit.
