Note: Do not turn the crankshaft until the timing gear case is installed. The timing gauge assembly is located on the front of the timing gear case. Use the timing gauge assembly to locate the top center position. Once the top center position is located, determine the number of degrees before the top center position. The top center position is located on the "0" mark.

Gears for the camshaft

(1) Tighten the bolts for the retaining plate to the following torque: ... 11 ± 2 N·m (99 ± 21 lb in)

(2) Retaining plate

(3) Governor weight assembly

(4) Gear of the camshaft

(5) Hub

(6) Pin for hub (5)

Minimum backlash for all gears ... 0.08 mm (0.003 inch)

Maximum backlash for all gears ... 0.25 mm (0.010 inch)

Note: If the backlash is greater than the maximum backlash, replace the camshaft gear, the idler gear and the crankshaft gear.

When the idler gear is installed on the shaft of the oil pump, align a timing mark on idler gear (8) with the timing mark on crankshaft gear (10). Also, align the other timing mark on idler gear (8) with the timing mark on camshaft gear (7) .

The gears are correctly aligned when the locating pin that is located on the timing gear case is installed in pin hole (9) of the oil pump cover.
