Installation Instructions For The 154-1642 Gasket Kit {1216} Caterpillar

Introduction

This entire Special Instruction should be read and understood before beginning any work on the engine.

Note: Improper assembly will result in premature failure of the sealing system.

This Special Instruction gives the installation instructions for the 154-1642 Gasket Kit . Ensure that the proper color and the proper part number of the seals are positioned in the appropriate grooves in the 132-6881 Cylinder Liner . Also ensure that the proper lubricants are used.

(1) Black 9L-5854 Filler Band . (2) Orange 131-3717 D-Ring Seal . (3) Orange 110-2220 Liner Seal (Middle). (4) Dark Blue 142-6217 Liner Seal (Oil) .

1. Apply 5P-3975 Rubber Lubricant on the surfaces of the cylinder liner bore.

2. Install the orange 131-3717 D-Ring Seal in the groove (2) in the cylinder liner.

3. Install the orange 110-2220 Liner Seal (Middle) in the groove (3) in the cylinder liner.

4. Install the dark blue 142-6217 Liner Seal (Oil) in the groove (4) in the cylinder liner.

5. Apply 5P-3975 Rubber Lubricant on the cylinder liner seals that are installed in the bottom three grooves of the liner.

6. Place the black 9L-5854 Filler Band completely in clean engine oil for a moment. Install the filler band in the groove (1) under the cylinder liner flange without delay. Install the cylinder liner into the cylinder block immediately, before the filler band expands.
