SE60 V Asphalt Screed Machine System Caterpillar

Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting

Usage:

SE60 V JJ3

------ WARNING! ------

Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause serious injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the hydraulic system.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from improperly checking for a leak.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. Escaping air or fluid under pressure, even a pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue causing serious injury, and possible death.

If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

----------------------

  1. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all personnel away from the machine or in the view of the operator.

  1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel.

  1. Activate the parking brake.

  1. Place the propel control lever in the "Neutral" position.

  1. Place the travel/pave/maneuver speed control in the "Pave" position.

Note: Most Tests and Adjustments are made with the screed in the null position. Null the screed in the following manner.

  1. Raise the screed. Engage the screed service lock.

  1. Adjust the tow point cylinder controls in order to install the tow point lock pins, if equipped. If the screed does not have tow point lock pins, adjust the tow point cylinder until the tow point indicator gauge is at 16 cm (6.3 inch) mark.

  1. Adjust the crown controls until the crown position indicator is at zero.

  1. Adjust the extenders to the zero slope position.

  1. Adjust the height of the extenders in order to be aligned with the main screed. If the screed plates are worn, visually determine an average height. Adjust the height of the extender to this average height.

  1. Disengage the screed service lock. Lower the screed onto a flat level surface.

  1. Adjust the left thickness control so that there is no resistance to turning.

  1. Adjust the right thickness control so that there is no resistance to turning.

  1. Repeat steps 12 and 13 until both controls turn freely.

  1. Lock the thickness control in order to prevent movement.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Move all hydraulic controls to positions that release any pressure in the hydraulic system.

  1. All machine hydraulic systems share the hydraulic tank. Carefully loosen the filler cap on the hydraulic tank in order to release any pressure in the tank.

  1. Tighten the filler cap on the hydraulic tank.

  1. The pressure in the system has now been released and lines or components can be removed.
