The following problem is only applicable to the machines listed above that are equipped with one of the following X-Body arrangements: 327-0400 Body and Canopy As , 363-5111 Truck Body Option Ar , 363-5112 Truck Body Option Ar or 363-5113 Truck Body Option Ar .
The canopy can develop a crack where stringer plate (A) and C channel (B) meets at location shown in Illustration 2 and Illustration 3. The crack shown in Illustration 2 can develop on either side of the C channel. The cracks may be observed in several locations along the length of the C channel.
Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem, recommending removal of crack, and reweld affected area using applicable general weld procedures. Refer Special Instruction, REHS1841, "General Welding Procedures".
Regardless in the event of a failure, observed cracks or no cracks, record the information as requested below in the ""Machine Observation Report" " and send information to:
