Hitch Drive Shaft - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Install the steering frame lock.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or movement.

Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed.

Connect the steering frame lock link between the front and rear frames before working on machine.

Do not disconnect the lock link until the machine is made operational and the commissioning procedure is completed.


------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from driveline torque windup under load.

Unequal wheel speed can result in driveline torque windup which can cause driveline components to be under load during disassembly.

Relieve the driveline torque windup before disassembly.


  1. Use Tooling (B) in order to stabilize the machine.

  2. Use tool (A) in order to raise the front axle until one of the wheels clears the ground. This releases driveline torque windup in the front axle. Lower the front axle and remove Tooling (A).

  3. The weight of hitch drive shaft (3) is approximately 24 kg (53 lb).

  4. Mark orientation and remove eight bolts (1) and (2) from hitch drive shaft (3).

  5. Use two people in order to remove hitch drive shaft (3) from the machine.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install hitch drive shaft (3) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Inspect hitch drive shaft (2) for damage and replace any parts as needed.

    2. Align the keyways and install bolts (1) and (2) in order to connect hitch drive shaft (3) to the yoke on the hitch and output transfer gears.

    3. Tighten bolts (2) and (3) to a torque of 135 ± 20 N·m (100 ± 15 lb ft).
