Start By:

  1. Remove the final drive.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Remove thrust washer (1). If necessary, remove four dowels (2) from the inner carrier assembly.

  2. Remove bolts (3), plate (4), and shims (5).

  3. Use a suitable press to remove shaft (6). Remove gear (7).

    Note: Support the planetary carrier in the locations that are indicated prior to the removal of shaft (6). Failure to properly support the planetary carrier can result in damage to the carrier assembly.

  4. Remove bearing cone (8). Remove bearing cup (9). Repeat this procedure for bearing cone (8) and bearing cup (9) on the opposite side of gear (7).

    Note: The bearing cone and the bearing cup are a matched set. Do not mix the parts during the disassembly procedure.

  5. Remove retaining ring (10).

  6. Repeat Steps 2 through 5 for the remaining planetary gears.

  7. Remove bolts (11), plate (12), and shims (13).

  8. Use a suitable press to remove shaft (14).

    Note: Support the planetary carrier in the locations that are indicated prior to the removal of shaft (14). Failure to properly support the planetary carrier can result in damage to the carrier assembly.

  9. Slide gear (15) and bearing (16) toward the center of the planetary carrier and install Tooling (B) to retain the bearing rollers.

    Note: Do not allow the bearing rollers to fall from the gear.

  10. Slide gear (15) and bearing (16) to the center of the planetary carrier. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to lift planetary carrier (17) from gear (15) and bearing (16). The weight of planetary carrier (17) is approximately 499 kg (1100 lb).

  11. Remove Tooling (B) from gear (15) and bearing (16).

    Note: The rollers and the race of bearing (16) are matched sets. Do not mix the parts during the disassembly procedure.

  12. Position gear (15) and bearing (16) onto the side of gear (15). The weight of gear (15) and bearing (16) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb). Slide bearing (16) halfway out of gear (15) and install Tooling (B). Remove bearing (16). Repeat this procedure for bearing (16) that is on the opposite side of gear (15).

  13. Repeat Step 7 through Step 12 for the remaining planetary gears.
