2.0 Troubleshooting OEM Systems With Specific Symptoms.

Usage:

NOTE: Before using this section, be sure that you have:

1. Gathered information about the complaint to adequately describe the symptoms.

Driver Information

What happened, and when?Under what conditions?What else occurred?When did the symptoms begin (and what else happened at that time)?

2. Verified that the complaint is not due to normal engine operation.

Example: Parking Brake Switch NOT Installed, therefore, Idle Shutdown Feature will not operate.

3. Follow procedures outlined in this manual.

Test each probable cause using the tests suggested by the procedure. Be sure to check connectors, especially on intermittent problems!

4. If the problem is not resolved using this manual, the problem may be within the 3176 Engine System (Caterpillar responsibility). This requires an ECAP/DDT Service Tool to repair. See Electronic Troubleshooting, 3176 Diesel Truck Engine, Form No. SENR5112-01.

P-200: Engine Will Not Crank

P-201: Engine Cranks But Will Not Start

P-202: Engine Misfires, Runs Rough Or Is Unstable

P-203: Intermittent Low Power Or Power Cutouts

P-204: Low Power/Poor Or No Response To Throttle

P-205: Cruise Or PTO Does Not Function

P-206: Intermittent Cruise Or PTO Drop-Out

P-207: Intermittent Engine Shutdowns

P-208: Speedometer Not Working/Erratic

P-209: Idle Shutdown Will Not Engage/ Cannot Be Overriden

P-210: Engine Retarder Does Not Activate

P-211: Diagnostic/Warning Lamp Is Malfunctioning
