PROBLEM
Show/hide table
The existing clean emissions module may fail on certain C4.4 Industrial Engines due to vibration fatigue. If the existing aftertreatment system fails, it can cause the engine to reduce in performance and power and may require aftertreatment replacement. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Show/hide table
Due to the vintage of the clean emissions module, if a fatigue failure occurs on the strap assembly, exhaust filter (DPF) or the exhaust filter support then the complete assembly may have to be replaced by a newer clean emissions module arrangement. If your engine is fitted with the 357-0094 or 357-0095 Clean Emissions Module and a fatigue failure occurs then a newer vintage clean emissions module will be required. If a newer clean emissions module is required order the parts identified within the Parts Needed. The replacement assembly for 357-0095 Clean Emissions Module is a 364-7153 Clean Emissions Module. The 364-7153 Clean Emissions Module will need to be assembled on site from parts listed the Parts Needed. The replacement assembly for 357-0094 Clean Emissions Module is a 364-7151 Clean Emissions Module. The 3647151 Clean Emissions Module is available as a complete assembly. When replacing the 357-0095 Clean Emissions Module assembly, some parts are the same between the 357-0095 Clean Emissions Module and the 364-7153 Clean Emissions Module. The following parts are reused from the old assembly: 389-2120 Support Bracket Group 362-8943 Soot Antenna Group 341-4827 Temperature Sensor Group Refer to Image 1. If the clean emissions module is built from parts the identification label on the old assembly will not be transferred to the built assembly. The exhaust monitor group wiring to the antenna assemblies will require re-routing to the opposite side of the exhaust filter. Refer to the attached Rework Procedure. If the clean emissions module is removed it is recommended to replace the top cover seal. Both flex pipe clamp bands must also be replaced upon removal. Refer to the following sections in Disassembly and Assembly, KENR9120: "Flexible Exhaust Pipe - Remove and Install" "Soot Antenna - Remove and Install" "Diesel Particulate Filter - Remove" "Diesel Particulate Filter - Install" "Fuel Temperature Sensor - Remove and Install" "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install" Safety Notes: Wear goggles, gloves, protective clothing, and a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved P95 or N95 half-face respirator when handling a used Diesel Particulate Filter or Catalytic Converter Muffler. Failure to do so could result in personal injury. The muffler, catalytic converter/muffler, and diesel particulate filter will become extremely hot during engine operation. A hot muffler, catalytic converter/muffler and diesel particulate filter can cause serious burns. Allow adequate cooling time before working on or near the muffler, catalytic converter/muffler and diesel particulate filter. |
