Arctic Conversion for the Engine in a 587R{1355, 1380} Caterpillar

Introduction

This special instruction will provide the steps that are required to perform the arctic conversion of the engine in a 587R Pipelayer.

1. Remove 2W-6602 Regulator Housing Cover Assembly (7) and 248-5513 Water Temperature Regulator (8) .

   ReferenceRefer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR8243, "Water Temperature Regulator - Remove and Install" for the proper disassembly procedure.

2. Replace 2H-1193 Ferrule (9) with 6V-3537 Dowel (1) .

3. Install new 247-7133 Water Temperature Regulator (2). Then, reinstall 2W-6602 Regulator Housing Cover Assembly (7) .

   ReferenceRefer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR8243, "Water Temperature Regulator - Remove and Install" for the proper assembly procedure.

4. Remove the following parts from the right side of the engine: 153-1287 Water Tube Assembly (10), 206-2113 Hose As (14), 122-8905 Elbow (18), 8M-0755 Connector (11), 8C-6871 Connector (12), two 7N-7628 Gaskets (17), 178-2500 Flange (16), two 180-8424 O-Ring Seals (13) and 6D-4246 Clip (15) .

5. Install two new 7N-7628 Gaskets (5), two 7N-7878 Cover Plates (6), 7X-7731 Pipe Plug (3), and 3J-5390 Plug (4) .
