On some machines, the 5P-9726 Gauge Plug that is used to check brake wear may not function properly. The 177-1606 Brake Anchor (1) contains the opening (3) that is at the bottom of port (2). The port (2) is a number 10 port. The opening (3) may not be drilled properly. This could cause interference between the plunger on the wear indicator and the brake anchor.
If interference exists between the plunger on the wear indicator and the brake anchor, the repair can be performed at the planned component rebuild. Use the following procedure in order to repair the brake anchor.
- Remove the service and parking brake for the front of the machine. Refer to the disassembly and assembly module for your machine.
- Remove the 177-1606 Brake Anchor (1). Refer to the correct procedures in the disassembly and assembly module for your machine.
- At each number 10 port (2), center a 1U-8174 Drill Bit (12.5 mm (0.49 inch)) at an angle of 30 degrees. Finish drilling opening (3) .
Note: Care should be taken so that the sealing surface of the piston is not damaged. The sealing surface is the inside diameter on the brake anchor.
- Smooth any rough edges that occur at the breakout in the bottom of the opening. The plunger on the 5P-9726 Gauge Plug should move freely in the number 10 port.
- Assemble the service and parking brake. Refer to the disassembly and assembly module for your machine.
