Usage:
(1) O-ring, (2) Locking screw, and (3) Spacer
(4) Slot in the hub, (5) Hole in the body of the fuel injection pump, (6) Hole in the fuel injection pump gear, (7) Setscrews, (8) Timing pin, and (9) Nut.
NOTICE |
---|
The engine must be set at TC number 1 cylinder on the compression stroke before the fuel injection pump is fitted. If the crankshaft needs to be rotated, the fuel injection pump must be fitted to the engine temporarily, otherwise the loose gear may cause damage to the timing case. |
NOTICE |
---|
The drive shaft of the pump must not be rotated without the spacer in position under the locking screw. If the fuel injection pump drive shaft is rotated with the locking screw tightened on to the drive shaft, the drive shaft will be damaged. |
1. Inspect the O-ring (1) and, if necessary, install a new O-ring.
2. Lightly lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil. Place the pump into position onto the timing case.
3. Fit the pump in to position on to the three studs and fit the flange nuts.
4. Fit the setscrew and nut that belong to the support bracket. Ensure that no force is applied to the fuel injection pump when the support bracket is installed.
5. Tighten the flange nuts that hold the fuel injection pump to the engine to a torque of ... 28 N·m (20 lb ft)
6. Install the gear onto the hub of the fuel injection pump. If a new timing plate is installed, the setscrews (7) for the gear should be in the center of the slots to allow for the removal of any backlash. Tighten the setscrews finger tight.
NOTE: The gear will only fit in on direction. The letters C and M are on the front of the gear.
7. Insert the timing pin (8) through the hole (6) of the fuel injection pump gear and the slot in the hub (4). The timing pin should be pushed fully into the hole (5) that is in the body of the fuel injection pump. If the timing pin cannot be inserted into the body, make sure that the engine is at TC on the number 1 cylinder.
NOTICE |
---|
The fuel injection pump gear must be fitted to the engine before the crankshaft is rotated. |
(10) Fuel injection pump gear.
8. If a new timing plate has been installed, carefully turn the fuel injection pump gear counterclockwise by hand (10). This will remove the backlash between the idler gear and the fuel injection pump gear. Do not rotate the crankshaft or the fuel injection pump shaft. Tighten the setscrews for the gear to a torque of ... 28 N·m (20 lb ft)
9. Remove the timing pin.
NOTICE |
---|
Do not overtighten the union nuts on the fuel injection lines. If there is a leak from the union nut, ensure that the fuel line is correctly aligned with the fuel injector inlet. By overtightening the union nuts, a restriction can occur and affect the fuel delivery. |
NOTICE |
---|
Use a second wrench to prevent movement of the high-pressure outlet when the union nut for each fuel injection line is tightened. |
10. Install the fuel injection lines. Tighten the nuts to a torque of ... 22 N·m (16 lb ft)
11. Connect the stop control and the control rod on the fuel injection pump. Install the cables and the connection for the cold start device. Install the electrical stop solenoid to the pump.
12. Purge the air from the fuel system. Refer to the section in this manual, Purging Air from the Fuel System, for the correct procedure.
13. Connect the battery. Start the engine and check for leaks. Make provisions for engine shut down should an overspeed occur. When the engine reaches normal operating temperature, check that the idle speed and the maximum high idle speed are correct.
