Some 9X-7803 Alternators Were Mislabeled As 8C-6163
Usage:
GENERALALL CATERPILLAR PRODUCTS USING THE 9X-7803 ALTERNATOR
Problem:
Approximately 81 9X-7803 24 volt, 100 amp alternators were mislabeled as 8C-6163 (12 volt, 105 amp) alternators and were installed on a variety of Caterpillar products. All of these alternators were manufactured as 9X-7803 alternators, and the supplier part number (1117828) was correctly marked on the label. The date code range marked on the label is 97B07 through 97D14.
Solution:
Since these alternators were all manufactured properly, they pose no problem with form, fit or functionality as installed on the Caterpillar products. The concern is one of service replacement. The 8C-6163 12 volt alternator will not replace the 9X-7803 24 volt alternator.
