Usage:
Problem:
Landfills (rubbish tips) by their nature have many and varied chemicals, materials, along with articles containing &/or made from these products deposited in them over the years. Some of these products, and those resulting from their mixing in the landfill may be in a hazardous category, can be contained in the landfill gas (even in minute quantities), and come into the combustion chamber of landfill gas engines along with the fuel. In the combustion chamber, they can accumulate in, or conceivably transform into other products which can accumulate in the combustion chamber deposits, and also in the deposits on valves and pistons.
These deposits can contain hazardous material in small quantity, and care needs to be exercised when servicing, repairing and cleaning combustion chamber related components.
We have recently become aware of a report indicating that traces of arsenic have been found present in deposits in landfill engines in Australia and New Zealand.
Solution:
Preferably use non dust forming methods for cleaning components, and use normal industry safety practices in handling and cleaning components where dust may be present.
