Air Fuel Ratio Control (AFRC) Adjustment To Help Reduce Excessive Black Smoke During Acceleration
Usage:
ENGINESCATERPILLAR MACHINES POWERED BY 3408 (48W) AND 3412 (73W) MACHINE ENGINES
Problem:
Some machines powered by the above engines may experience excessive black smoke during acceleration.
Solution:
Effective with 3408 Machine Engine 48W37008 and 3412 Machine Engine 73W15451, an improved method of setting AFRC was implemented in the factory. The "Static" setting method reduces the tolerances seen on AFRC setting of past engines. Engines built after the change will have AFRC settings consistent with the published 0T/2T Engine Specifications.
Use the "Dynamic" method currently in the Engine Testing And Adjusting module of the Service Manuals for field checking the AFRC.
