Usage:
CATERPILLAR MACHINES POWERED BY 3412 (38S, 73W) MACHINE ENGINES
Problem:
Some 7C-0145 and 0R-5513 Oil Cooler Core Assemblies built between November 1993 and March 1994 MAY have cracked castings in the oil inlet/outlet ports. See the illustration. These oil coolers are used only on 3412 engines. This cracking is the result of faulty assembly tooling in combination with a possible casting defect. The mode of failure is an external leak of oil and/or water.
Solution:
The suspect oil coolers will have date codes from MUUUDE (21NOV93) to NANEDR (05MAR94). See illustration for the location of the date code and the chart to decifer the date code. All oil coolers built after NANEDR (05MAR94) are being 100 percent inspected.
If a replacement 7C-0145 and 0R-5513 Oil Cooler Core Assembly has a date code that is included in the suspect oil coolers do NOT install it.
