Problem:
There have been reports of the 9X-3293 Jacket Water Heater Group being pushed out of the cylinder block.
Solution:
A new method of retention of the jacket water heater is being investigated. In the interim, it is recommended that a retainer be fabricated from 3.0 mm (.12 in) thick, low carbon steel. See Illustration 1.
The fabricated retainer is attached to the cylinder block at the block drain plug location. See Illustrations 2 and 3. The former block drain plug (8T-0293 Bolt and 6F-7062 Copper Washer) are replaced with the following components:
NOTE: Before installing the fabricated retainer, remove the 2H-3924 Lock Washer (inside tooth) from under the jacket water heater retaining nut. Tighten the jacket water heater retaining nut to a torque of 41 ± 3 N·m (30 ± 2 lb ft). Over tightening the retaining nut can result in poor retention of the jacket water heater.
Install the fabricated retainer and new components as shown in Illustrations 2 and 3.
