PROBLEM
The current lubrication system is susceptible to debris contamination due to improper handling of the replacement oil filter element on certain 793F, 795F, and 797F Off-Highway Trucks. The outside of the filter element is on the filtered (clean) side of the lubrication system. Debris introduced to the outside of the filter element can have a detrimental impact on engine life. The new oil filter housing alters the flow of oil through a new filter element. The outside of the new filter element is on the unfiltered (dirty) side of the lubrication system. |

If equipped with the non-current (339-3301) engine oil filter group, perform this service letter update during the Planned Component Replacement (PCR) of the engine. A visual inspection can be performed to confirm if the non-current filter housing is installed. Refer to image 1 below of the non current design. Notice the oil supply to the filter housing is attached to the port CLOSEST to the engine block. Refer to image 2 below for the latest (445-4930) oil filter design. Notice the oil supply to the filter housing is attached to the port FURTHEST from the engine block. No update should be performed on this filter housing. For reference, the Type 2 Engines listed below were originally built with the non-current oil filter: B7B01000-01611 B7C01000-01003 ZK201000-01047 JTL01000-01093 LLM01000-01298 A4K01000-01007 ZK300001-01048 Note: The 445-4930 Oil Filter Housing requires a new 394-4550 Oil Filter Element. For future service, ensure proper stocking levels of the new element are achieved prior to performing this program. Service replacement 394-4550 Oil Filter Elements are not covered under this program. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS8661, "Procedure to Retrofit the Oil Filter Housing Group on Certain C175 Off Highway Truck Engines". |
