PROBLEM
The existing 2872801/">287-2801 Indicator Assembly may show a higher temperature than the actual engine coolant temperature on certain 424 II and 434B Backhoe Loaders. If the existing 2872801/">287-2801 Indicator Assembly fails, it will malfunction. |

Note: This program only covers the malfunctioning of the engine coolant temperature gauge issue only. Other failures pertaining to the indicator assembly are not applicable. 1. Confirm that the 2872801/">287-2801 Indicator Assembly reads the incorrect temperature to the actual coolant temperature. 2. Refer to the attached Rework Procedure. |

PARTS DISPOSITION
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling. |
Before starting this Rework Procedure, follow the safety instructions below. Note: Please read all of the steps before start of this Rework Procedure. Note: The operator should wear required personal protection equipment's as per the safety procedure. - Park the machine on a level surface. If you must park on a grade, chock the machine. - Apply the service brake in order to stop the machine. Move the transmission control lever to the NEUTRAL position. - Move the speed control lever to the LOW IDLE position. - Engage the parking brake. - Engage the transmission neutral lock. - Lower all work tools to the ground. - Stop the engine using engine shut-off cable. - Move the hydraulic control levers back and forth in order to relieve hydraulic pressure. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release", for additional information. - Turn the engine start switch to OFF position and remove the key. |

Rework Procedure: 1. Unscrew the five screws located on the right console. Refer to Image1.2.1. |

2. Lift the right console cover plate and remove the existing indicator assembly by removing the two nuts. Refer to Image1.3.1. |

3. Remove the harness connector from the indicator assembly. Refer to Image1.4.1. |

4. Install the new 2872801/">287-2801 Indicator Assembly to the right console cover plate. Refer to Image1.5.1. |

5. Tighten the two nuts enough to make the indicator stay on the cover plate. 6. Reconnect the harness to the indicator assembly. 7. Install the cover plate to the right console. 8. Start the engine and check and ensure that the indicator assembly is functioning properly. 9. Check and ensure that the indicator shows the correct temperature after 30 minutes of machine (engine) operation. |
