Parts Manuals May List Air Conditioning Compressors Incorrectly {1802,1809,7320}

All CATERPILLAR Products With Air Conditioning

Description of Change: Parts book listings for air conditioning compressors may be in error following conversion to R-134a air conditioning systems. Consequently, R-12 compressors may be replaced incorrectly into systems charged with R-134a refrigerant. R-12 compressors contain mineral oil and R-134a compressors contain PAG oil. When R-12 compressors are replaced into R-134a systems, R-134a refrigerant does not carry the mineral oil and the compressor is not lubricated. This will shorten compressor life and decrease compressor efficiency.

Adaptable To: All CATERPILLAR products listed in Chart 2 are equipped with air conditioning systems containing R-134a refrigerant. Compressors for these models should be replaced with the R-134a air conditioning compressors listed in Chart 1. Compressor replacements for all previous CATERPILLAR models with R-12 air conditioning systems should be made with R-12 compressors.
