Installation Of Coolant Conditioner Group{1350} Caterpillar

Installation Of Coolant Conditioner Group{1350}

Usage:

3208 ( 90N, 40S, 75V, 32Y ),
3406 ( 92U ),
3408 ( 28V)

Installation and correct maintenance of a coolant conditioner group on the above engines can help to give maximum protection to the inner surface of the cylinder block. A solid corrosion inhibitor within the element assembly of the conditioner group will dissolve (mix with the coolant) as the coolant flows through it, to add the correct amount of inhibitor needed for cooling system protection.

NOTICE

The coolant conditioner group must not be used with Dowtherm 209.

Parts Needed

NOTE: Use hose that is of SAE J1402, TYPE D, CLASS 2 quality. Because the base assembly will not be installed on the engine, but either near it or in the engine compartment, the length of hose needed will not be known until the time of hose assembly installation. Get the needed additional fittings and connectors from a local source of supply.

Installation

1 Install one 9N3666 Valve Assembly (1) in the top (OUT) hole, and one 9N3666 Valve Assembly (2) in one of the (IN) holes of 9N3668 Base Assembly (3), according to the location where the base is to be installed. Put a 3/8"-16 pipe plug in each of the other two (IN) holes that are not used. Install the base assembly in a location that will give good access to element assembly (4). See the illustrations that follow for hose connection points on the engine.

2 For 3406 Truck Engines, remove one of the plugs (5), install a fitting in the plug hole and connect a hose from the fitting to valve (2) in the IN port of the base assembly. Remove one of the plugs (6), install a fitting, and connect a hose from the fitting to valve (1) in the OUT port of the base assembly.

3 For 3408 Truck Engines remove one of the plugs (7), install a fitting in the plug hole and connect a hose from the fitting to valve (2) in the IN port of the base assembly. Remove one of the plugs (8), install a fitting, and connect a hose from the fitting to valve (1) in the OUT port of the base assembly.

4 For 3208 Engines, remove a plug at either location (9) or (10) and install a fitting in the plug hole. Connect a hose from the fitting to valve (2) in the IN port of the base assembly. Remove a plug from hole (A) or (B) and install the fittings and hose needed to connect this port to valve (1) in the OUT port of the base assembly.

5 For 3208 Marine Engines, a hole on the front right side of the cylinder block (hole is normally used to drain the cylinder block water jacket) can also be used as a source of supply to connect to the IN port of the base assembly. If this is done, port (B) or the hole for plug (11) (shown in the illustration that follows) must be used as a return port.

6 For 3208 Marine Engines, removal of plug (11) will give another location, if needed, to connect the hose from the OUT port of the base assembly.

7 Install the correct precharge element on the base assembly according to the instructions on the element case.
