Reduction Gear And Planetary

Usage:

Remove Reduction Gear And Planetary

start by:

a) remove oil filter

b) remove selector valve

c) remove oil pump

d) remove oil manifold

NOTE: The removal of the reduction gear and planetary can be made easier by the removal of the top shaft.

1. Remove tube assembly (1) from the rear of the reduction gear and planetary housing.

2. Use a 1/2"-13 NC forged eyebolt, a hoist and a nylon sling as a support for the reduction gear and planetary.

NOTE: The housing of the reduction gear and planetary is sealed with liquid gasket material.

3. Remove twenty-two bolts (2) from the reduction gear and planetary housing (3). Use a soft hammer to make a separation of the reduction gear and planetary and housing (5).

4. Use a hoist and sling to pull the reduction gear and planetary off the planetary group sun gear (4) and from the housing (5). Weight of the planetary reduction gear and planetary is approximately 900 lb. (410 kg).

Install Reduction Gear And Planetary

NOTE: Before the installation of the reduction gear and planetary is made put 7M7260 Liquid Gasket Material on metal surfaces that make contact with each other.

1. Use a hoist and sling to install the reduction gear and planetary on guide pins (1) and the planetary group sun gear (2).

2. Fasten reduction gear and planetary housing (4) to housing (3) with bolts (5).

3. Install tube assembly (6) to the rear of the reduction gear and planetary housing.

end by:

a) install oil filter

b) install selector valve

c) install oil pump

d) install oil manifold

Disassemble Reduction Gear And Planetary

start by:

a) remove reduction gear and planetary

1. Remove ten bolts, nuts and lockwashers (1) from the companion flange (2).

2. Remove the companion flange (2) with a hoist. Weight of the companion flange (2) is approximately 200 lb. (90 kg).

3. Remove five bolts and a lock (3) that hold the coupling (8) to the carrier shaft (7).

4. Remove washer (4) and gasket (5). Inspect the gasket (5) for damage and make a replacement if it is broken or damaged.

5. Use a hoist to lift the coupling (8) from the carrier shaft (7). Weight of the coupling (8) is approximately 160 lb. (72 kg).

6. Inspect the seals (6) for damage and make a replacement if they are broken or damaged.

7. Remove fourteen bolts and lockwashers (9) that hold the bearing retainer (12).

8. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws in the bearing retainer (12) and make a separation from the cover (11) and the bearing race (10).

9. Turn the reduction gear and planetary over and make a support with blocks as shown in the illustration.

10. Use tooling (A) and a 8S8033 Electric Hydraulic Pump Group to push the carrier shaft bearing assembly off the carrier shaft (7) and out of the cover (11).

11. Use a steel bar or rod and a hoist to lift the planet carrier (13) out of the cover (11). Weight of planet carrier (13) is approximately 150 lb. (68 kg).

12. Put blocks under the planet carrier (13) so the planet gear shaft (15) can be removed.

13. Remove bolts (14) that hold the planet gear shafts (15). Remove the shafts.

14. Remove the planet gears (16) from the carrier (13).

NOTE: Inspect all parts for damage and wear.

15. The stationary ring gear (18) can be removed by the removal of bolts (17) from the cover (11).

16. Remove bolts (17) and remove the stationary ring gear (18) from the cover (11) and inspect for wear or damage.

Assemble Reduction Gear And Planetary

1. Install planet gears (3) and planet gear shafts (2) into planet carrier (1). Fasten all parts with bolts and plates.

2. Put the carrier shaft (4) in a vertical position.

3. Lower the reduction gear and planetary housing over the carrier shaft (4) before the installation of the roller bearing races are made.

NOTE: Heat the taper roller bearings in oil to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C) for installation purposes.

4. Install the first tapered roller bearing on the shaft (4) with the small end of the taper up.

5. Install the outer forward bearing race, small end down. The outer bearing races are an easy fit in the reduction gear and planetary housing.

6. Install the spacer for the outer races into the housing.

7. Put lubrication on the seal rings and the sealing surface for installation purposes.

8. Install the other tapered roller bearing on the shaft (4) with the small end of the taper down.

9. Install the last bearing outer race, small end down.

10. Install the bearing retainer (7) with fourteen bolts and lockwashers (6) and tighten to a torque of 35 ± 2 lb. ft. (45 ± 3 N·m).

NOTE: Be sure the lips of seals (5) are installed with the inner seal lip toward the inside and the outer seal lip toward the outside.

11. Install coupling (8) into the housing.

12. Install washer (9) and gasket (10).

13. Install five bolts and a lock (11) to hold the coupling (8) to the carrier shaft (4).

14. Put the companion flange (13) in position on the coupling (8) and install with ten bolts, nuts and lockwashers (12).

end by:

a) install reduction gear and planetary
