Idler Gear

Usage:

Remove Idler Gear

start by:

a) remove top shaft

1. Remove fourteen bolts and lockwashers (1) from idler gear cover (2).

2. Remove idler gear cover (2).

3. Inspect gasket (4) and make a replacement if broken or damaged.

NOTE: Before the idler gear is removed, hold the bearings in position so they will not cause damage to the housing.

4. Loosen bolts on retainers (6).

5. Remove four bolts (3) and remove two bearing caps (5).

6. Carefully remove idler gear (8) and idler bearings (7) from housing,

7. The idler bearings (7) slide off of races (9).

Install Idler Gear

1. Inspect the idler bearings (1) and make a replacement if worn or damaged.

2. Carefully put the idler gear (2) and idler bearings (1) in position for alignment in housing.

3. Install bearing caps (3) with bolts (4).

4. Tighten retainers (5) with bolts.

5. Put the gasket and idler gear cover (6) in position and install with fourteen bolts and lockwashers (7).

end by:

a) install top shaft
