Top Shaft

Usage:

Disassemble Top Shaft

start by:

a) remove top shaft

b) remove clutches

1. Remove spanner nut (1), spacer and lockwasher (2) from the main shaft group.

2. Use tooling (A) and a 8S8033 Electric Hydraulic Pump Group to remove the rear thrust bearing assembly (4) from the reverse driving shaft (3). Be sure not to damage the ring type seals (5) that are on the reverse driving shaft (3).

3. Use tooling (B) and a 8S8033 Electric Hydraulic Pump Group to remove the reverse driving gear (6). The reverse driving gear is connected to key (7).

NOTE: The reverse driving gear (6) and rear thrust bearings (4) can be removed together.

4. Remove spanner nut (8), lockwasher (9) and spacer from the forward drive shaft assembly (10).

5. Remove the forward drive shaft assembly (10) with a hoist and tooling (C).

NOTE: The forward drive shaft assembly (10) slides off the reverse driving shaft (3) after the nut (8) has been removed. Tooling (C) is used because there are no lifting eyes on the forward driving gear (12).

6. Use tooling (D) and a 8S8033 Electric Hydraulic Pump Group to remove the double tapered thrust bearing assembly (11) from the forward drive shaft (10).

7. Use tooling (E) and a 8S8033 Electric Hydraulic Pump Group to remove the forward driving gear (12) from the forward drive shaft (10). The forward driving gear (12) is connected to a key.

8. Use tooling (F) to remove the bearing assembly (13) from the forward drive shaft (10).

9. Remove the race and roller assembly (14) from the forward drive shaft (10) with tooling (G) and a 8S8033 Electric Hydraulic Pump Group.

10. Remove shield (16) and race and roller assembly (15) to complete the disassembly of the top shaft.

Assemble Top Shaft

NOTE: Before installation inspect bearings and gears for damage and make replacements if they are worn or damaged.

1. Install shield (1) and race and roller assembly (2) in the forward drive shaft assembly (3).

NOTE: Bearings and gears can be assembled on shafts by heating them in oil to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Slide them rapidly on the correct shafts and make a seat for the bearings and gears with a soft hammer.

2. Install race and roller assembly (4) on the forward drive shaft (3).

3. Install bearing assembly (5) on the forward drive shaft (3).

4. Install the forward driving gear (6) on the forward drive shaft (3). Make sure gear (6) makes an alignment with key on shaft (3).

5. Install the double tapered thrust bearing assembly (7) on the forward drive shaft (3).

6. Slide the forward drive shaft assembly on the reverse driving shaft (11).

7. Install spacer and washer (10) and spanner nut (9) and tighten to a torque of 110 ± 10 lb. ft. (149 ± 14 N·m).

8. Install the reverse driving gear (12) on the reverse driving shaft (11). Make sure gear (12) makes an alignment with key (8) when the installation is made.

9. Install rear double thrust bearing assembly (13) on the reverse driving shaft (11).

10. Install spacer and washer (15) and spanner nut (14) on the reverse driving shaft (11).

11. Tighten nut (14) to a torque of 75 ± 5 lb. ft. (100 ± 7 N·m) with tool (A).
