NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS8657" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

The oil pan on 3406E Truck Engines (Non-Brakesaver) installed in Western Star Primemovers can crack during normal operation. This generally results in an oil leak. A steel stiffener plate needs to be installed between the block and the pan to give more rigidity to the bottom surface of the block.

Action Required
1. Check to see if a Sump Plate has been fitted to the engine. If not, remove the oil pan underframe, bolts, and washers.
2. If the oil pan is cracked, replace it with a 9Y5589 Oil Pan.
3. Install plate and gasket to block with three bolts and three washers.
4. Install new o-ring seals in oil suction and pressure tubes.
NOTE: Install shorter suction tube support if within serial numbers 5EK1-15885.
5. Install gasket and new oil pan.
NOTE: If original pan is reused, follow the above procedure using longer bolts to attach pan and sound suppression panel, if equipped.
NOTE: If equipped with left hand block sound panel clip, the mounting holes may need to be enlarged.
NOTE: With the addition of the stiffener plate, the oil pan will be 12mm lower, therefore, slightly more oil will be required to bring the oil up to the same level on the dip stick.
