Usage:
7251 And 7261 Marine Transmissions
Description of Change: An improved lubrication system is now used on 7251 and 7261 Marine Transmissions. This improved system uses an external tube assembly to supply lubrication oil to the main output shaft bearings and the lower shaft front bearings.
Formerly, lubrication oil flowed through the manifold to the junction between the manifold and the housing assembly. At this junction, the oil flowed through several drilled holes in the manifold to a groove around the end of the manifold. It then went into a hole in the lower half of the housing assembly. Over a period of time, it was possible for this oil in the manifold groove to wash out the gasket material between the top cover and the main housing. The result was oil leakage.
Adaptable As: The improved lubrication system is in effect with Serial Numbers 74E2411 (7251) and 89B746 (7261). The improved system is adaptable to all earlier 7251 and 7261 Marine Transmissions with the use of the new parts shown in the chart. The new parts are installed as shown in the illustrations.
NOTE: If the new 3T3975 Manifold, 3T2530 Cover Assembly, or the 3T3439 Housing are used on marine transmissions with the former lubrication system, the holes for the lubrication tubes must be plugged (closed).
Special Instructions, Form SMHS8119, has complete instructions for the modification of earlier transmissions for use with the new lubrication system.
