New Main And Connecting Rod Bearings Have A Thicker Layer Of Lead-Tin Overlay (Surface Material)

Usage:

D342 Engines

SUPPLEMENT: 11/30/83

ENGINE NEWS, AUGUST 25, 1982, PAGE 11.

In the article "New Main And Connecting Rod Bearings Have A Thicker Layer Of Lead-Tin Overlay (Surface Material)," the "ADAPTABLE AS:" section tells that "the new bearings are a direct replacement for the former bearings shown in the chart." Make a note that the new bearings will not fit all former 5.75" bore engines. Early 5.75" bore engines used a crankshaft with a 95.22 mm (3.749") diameter main bearing journal. Later crankshafts have a 108.20 mm (4.260") diameter main bearing journal. The new bearings will fit only the crankshafts with 108.20 mm (4.260") diameter journals.

The chart which follows has a list of machines and engines with approximate serial numbers when the crankshaft with 108.20 mm (4.260") diameter main bearing journals are used.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: New main and connecting rod bearings for the above engines have a thicker layer of lead-tin overlay (surface material) for longer service life. The bearing wall thickness and journal clearance specifications are not changed.

Adaptable As: The new bearings are a direct replacement for the former bearings as shown in the the chart.
