New Mounting Bracket For Mechanical Shut-Off Cable

Usage:

D346, D348, and D349 Industrial And Marine Engines

Description of Change: A new mounting bracket for the cable assembly is used in the mechanical shut-off group for the above engines. The new bracket has slotted holes to make installation and alignment easier.

The former bracket had drilled holes. Reports show that installation of the fuel injection lines was at times difficult. In some applications with the former bracket it was necessary to bend the bracket to install the fuel injection lines.

It is important that the end of the cable is in alignment with the mechanical shut-off. If the cable end is not in correct alignment it is possible for the cable to be bent when the mechanical shut-off is used. A bent cable can prevent operation of the shut-off. A visual inspection of the cable and adjustment of the cable bracket will correct any problems with the alignment of the cable and shut-off.

Also, it is Caterpillar's recommendation that the new cable mounting bracket be installed after the fuel injection lines are installed.

Adaptable As: The new 5N9541 Bracket is a direct replacement for the former 4N3385 Bracket, which is canceled.
