Make Sure Coolant Conditioner Elements Are Changed At Correct Intervals

Usage:

All Caterpillar Industrial, Marine, And Generator Set Engines

Reference: Engine News, August 26, 1981, Pages 9 and 10. This article gives a complete list of precharge elements, maintenance elements and the cooling system capacities these elements can be used with.

Reports show that the precharge elements and maintenance elements have not always been changed at the correct service interval. It is important that these elements be changed at the service intervals shown in the Operation and Maintenance or the Maintenance Guides for your engines.

If these elements are not changed at the correct intervals, it is possible that some internal surfaces will not have enough protection from corrosion.

The serviceman must remember that the effect of the conditioner decreases with the increase in service hours. Also, the addition of water to the cooling system will lower the percentage of concentration of conditioner (inhibitor) in the system. For these reasons, the maintenance elements must be changed at the correct service interval to keep the desired percentage of corrosion protection in the cooling system. Make up coolant must always be treated with conditioner as shown in "Know Your Cooling System" Form SEBD0518-01.
