Usage:
All D348 Engines
The 7L4511 Sleeve Assemblies can generally be removed from the aftercoolers on D348 Engines by hand. On engines that have a high number of hours of operation removal of the sleeve assemblies can be difficult at times. See Illustration 1. The O-rings that make a seal between the sleeve assembly and the aftercooler have a tight fit and are not easily loosened.

The disassembly and assembly instructions in the Service Manual for your engine show how to remove the sleeve assemblies by hand. Use the procedure that follows if the sleeve assemblies can not be removed by hand.
1. Use two 1/2" x 13 taps to make threads in two bolt clearance holes of the sleeve assembly that are across (diagonally opposite) from each other.
NOTICE |
---|
To prevent broken taps, they must be installed so that they are straight.
|
2. Use a socket wrench to turn the taps carefully, as shown in Illustration 2. As the taps are turned they will go into the sleeve assembly and cause it to move backward, out of the aftercooler.
As the sleeve assembly moves backward, the O-rings loosen and the sleeve assembly can then be removed. See Illustration 3.
